PROGRAM DESCRIPTION

This program is designed for certified teachers; this program fulfills requirements for endorsement as teacher of preschool through third grade (P-3) in the State of New Jersey. 

ADMISSION REQUIREMENTS

In addition to the University’s admission requirements:

  • Baccalaureate degree from an accredited college or university
  • Cumulative grade point average (GPA) of 3.0*
  • Initial New Jersey instructional certificate
  • Official transcripts from all institutions attended
  • Passing score on the Early Childhood Content Knowledge PRAXIS (5025)
  • Professional Resume/CV
  • Personal statement
  • TOEFL or IELTS scores (for applicants whose native language is not English). Exceptions can be made for students who have completed at least 6 credits of college level English courses from a U.S. institution, or who have submitted SAT or ACT exam scores.

  • 15 credits required for certification
  • Teaching experience desirable but not necessary
REQUIRED COURSES – 15 CREDITS
EC 5100 Language, Reading and Thought in the Young Child: Theory and Practice 3 credits
EC 5230 Developmental Theories for Teaching in Early Childhood & Family Studies 3 credits
EC 5275 Integrated Curriculum Design 3 credits
EC 5320 Creating Partnerships with Families 3 credits
EC 5900 Early Childhood and Family Studies Conference or acceptable substitute (EC 5000, EC 5500, EC 5581 are acceptable) 3 credits

TOTAL OF 15 CREDITS TO COMPLETE CERTIFICATION
