PROGRAM DESCRIPTION

The Post-Master’s option in Licensed Professional Counseling is intended for counselors who hold a previous master’s degree and wish to become a “Licensed Professional Counselor” (LPC) in New Jersey. The New Jersey Licensure Law requires a total of 60 graduate credits including 45 credits in specified competency areas. The Program Coordinator will evaluate each applicant’s competencies.

ADMISSION REQUIREMENTS

In addition to the University’s admissions requirements:

  • Master’s degree in Counseling from an accredited college or university
  • Official transcripts from all institutions attended
  • Departmental Interview
  • Professional Resume/CV
  • Personal statement
  • TOEFL or IELTS scores (for applicants whose native language is not English). Exceptions can be made for students who have completed at least 6 credits of college level English courses from a U.S. institution, or who have submitted SAT or ACT exam scores.

TOTAL OF 12-18 CREDITS TO COMPLETE PROGRAM

**Applicants and admitted students should be aware that the 12 credit minimum assumes a 48-credit degree.  Admitted students may be required to take as few as 12 credits or as many as 18 credits based on New Jersey Licensing requirements of 60 credits with 45 credits distributed across 8 of 9 areas.  Before registering for courses, students must speak with an advisor to determine which additional courses are necessary to meet the LPC requirements.
