DPT Accreditation

Effective May 2016, Kean University has been granted Candidate for Accreditation status by the Commission on Accreditation in Physical Therapy Education (1111 North Fairfax Street, Alexandria, VA, 22314; phone: 703-706-3245; email: accreditation@apta.org). Candidate for Accreditation is a pre-accreditation status of affiliation with the Commission on Accreditation in Physical Therapy Education that indicates that the program is progressing toward accreditation and may matriculate students in technical/professional courses. Candidate for Accreditation is not an accreditation status nor does it assure eventual accreditation. Furthermore, though achievement of Candidate for Accreditation status signifies satisfactory progress toward accreditation, it does not assure that the program will be granted accreditation.  More information about the accreditation process through Commission on Accreditation in Physical Therapy Education (CAPTE) can be found at http://www.capteonline.org/

CAPTE Compliance
Kean University values the process of accreditation.  The Doctor of Physical Therapy program is progressing through candidacy status with CAPTE with the goal of achieving accreditation status.  We recognize that quality educational programs are identified through continued compliance with the CAPTE standards against which all physical therapy education programs are measured.  As such, we will continually strive to demonstrate integrity in all aspects of the accreditation process.  Through a careful and ongoing review of the CAPTE Standards, the DPT program at Kean University is committed to timely submission of all required documentation including:
  • Annual Accreditation Reports each year once program is implemented
  • Preparation of a Self-Study Report of progress toward accreditation in 2019
  • Timely submission of all fees associated with CAPTE accreditation
  • Timely notice of any planned or unexpected substantive program changes
  • Timely reporting of any institutional factors which may affect the program’s progress toward accreditation
  • Timely remediation of any CAPTE recommendations or any concerns that may result in non-compliance
