PROGRAM DESCRIPTION

This option provides students with opportunities to examine the principles and processes of curricular development, assessment and program evaluation for young children. Emphasis is placed on strategies applicable to the classroom and the development of master teachers. This option is for certified teachers who wish to earn a M.A. degree by completing coursework that would advance their knowledge, skills, and dispositions in teaching young children in preschool through third grade. 

This option does not lead to initial teacher certification.

ADMISSION REQUIREMENTS

In addition to the University’s admission requirements:

  • Baccalaureate degree from an accredited college or university
  • Cumulative grade point average (GPA) of 3.0*
  • New Jersey Standard Teaching Certification
  • Official transcripts from all institutions attended
  • GRE (Graduate Record Exam) test scores
  • Two letters of recommendation
  • Professional Resume/CV
  • Personal statement
  • Departmental interview may be required
  • Writing sample may be required
  • TOEFL or IELTS scores (for applicants whose native language is not English). Exceptions can be made for students who have completed at least 6 credits of college level English courses from a U.S. institution, or who have submitted SAT or ACT exam scores.
