Social Work Club

The MSW Program at Kean University has an MSW Club.  The goal the Club is to enhance the experience of students in the program through coordination of professional development opportunities and service projects. 

Claudia M. Brunson, Social Work Club President

Ms. Brunson is a student in the Kean MSW Program. Ms. Brunson studied at William Paterson University and received a Bachelor’s Degree in Applied Public Health Administration. She has completed coursework in nursing and learned that social work was and is her passion. She has administrative professional hospital experience at Trinitas Regional Medical Center. She will be completing an internship in adult psychiatric in-patient unit in 2016-2017 at Trinitas Regional Medical Center.  Her special interests include work with families, geriatrics, mental health and substance abuse. Ms. Brunson enjoys outdoor thrill activities such as zip-lining, skydiving, and roller blading. She loves baking. She enjoys being a mentor and volunteer. Her home town is Elizabeth, NJ.

Jessy Redondo, Social Work Club Vice-President

Mr. Redondo is a student in the Kean MSW Program. Mr. Redondo studied at John Jay College of Criminal Justice and received a Bachelor’s Degree in Forensic Psychology.  He currently works as a probation officer and Juvenile Conference Committee Coordinator with the Essex County Superior Court of New Jersey. His special interests include work with families and adults with mental health and substance abuse challenges. Mr. Redondo enjoys movies, music, reading, and family time. He played an extra in two movies. His passion for social work began as a child as he always found himself helping others. He is very interested in work in practice and policy.

Danielle Johnson, Social Work Club Secretary

Ms. Johnson studied at Kean University and received a Bachelor’s Degree in Social Work. She has experience with a variety of client populations including, but not limited to, homeless adults, families, chronically mentally ill, and adolescents. Her most recent position was as a Psychiatric Social Work Intern at Greystone Park Psychiatric Hospital in Morris Plains, NJ. Ms. Johnson enjoys recreational activities and is passionate about volunteer work.

Sabriya Simmons, Social Work Club Treasurer

Mrs. Simmons is a student in the MSW Kean Program. She received holds dual Bachelor’s Degrees in Media Communications and American Studies from SUNY College at Old Westbury. Currently, she works full time at the New York Power Authority (NYPA) in the Public and Governmental Affairs division as a Business Development & Community Affairs Specialist. The focus of her employment team is on energy efficiency, environmental justice, and sustainability. Mrs. Simmons is very dedicated to preserving the earth’s resources and has joined NYPA’s Green Team to promote these practices. Mrs. Simmons is a member of Alpha Kappa Alpha Sorority, Incorporated, and volunteers with Westchester Habitat for Humanity and White Plains Youth Bureau.
